Exceptional Zanzibar Dining Experiences

March 31, 2017

When planning a holiday in Zanzibar, the gorgeous beaches and all their enjoyable activities come to mind first. However, there’s so much more to this beautiful archipelago than great sun bathing opportunities.

Eating out in Zanzibar offers a unique and picturesque experience, with all tastes catered for, and the winning combination of excellent food and breath-taking scenery promises to provide unforgettable meals.

1. The Rock Restaurant

This restaurant can literally be found on a rock, as the name suggests!  Situated just off the shore of Michanwi Pingwe beach, this restaurant is a must do. Specializing in seafood, this exclusive location is completely surrounded by the Indian Ocean at high tide, and offers unparalleled views of the sea and sky whilst eating. What started as a humble fisherman post has been transformed into an unforgettable fine dining experience.

2. The Zanzibar Coffee House Cafe

If the sound of enjoying a freshly brewed cup of homegrown coffee, whilst overlooking Stone Town, then the Zanzibar Coffee House Cafe is another must do. The cafe adjoins the Zanzibar Coffee House Hotel, an Arabic house and one of the oldest buildings in the area. The Coffee served in the cafe is grown by the owners of the hotel in Zanzibar and Tanzania, and is prepared for you by a team of highly skilled baristas. To compliment your coffee, the cafe also has a wonderful selection of cakes and offers a continental menu.

3. The Forodhani Market

The Forodgani Market can be found in the Forodhani Gardens, also located in Stone Town. Set against the Indian Ocean, this Market comes to life at sunset as everyone gathers to eat dinner in the main square of the gardens. The cuisine on offer is mostly made up of traditional Swahili and Zanzibari dishes, with lots of seafood, fresh fruit, and vegetables, and is enjoyed by both locals and tourists alike. This authentic eating experience is not to be missed.

With all of Zanzibars fantastic food set against such phenomenal backgrounds, you may find it harder than expected to peel yourself away from it all in order to hit the beaches. So be prepared – if may not be your luggage that’s overweight on the way home.
