Rubicon announced last week they had entered a licensing deal with leading low cost operator easyGroup for the exclusive rights to the ‘FastJet’ brand.

The deal will see Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of easyJet, create a powerhouse team to lead the future development of a regional low cost carrier that will introduce new routes linking East and West and Southern Africa.

This could transform travel across Africa, removing the need for long journeys on dangerous roads and democratising air travel across business, tourism and leisure sectors. Fares could be in the region of $70-80, with advance deals of as little as $10-20 (before taxes).
