Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Budongo Eco Lodge

overview

Safari Highlights

Budongo Eco Lodge is located in the heart of Budongo Forest Reserve, just inside Murchison Falls National Park.

Chimp trekking in Uganda (Photo by Weeden)Forest Surroundings

This reserve has one of the largest forests in Uganda with an incredible biodiversity including 9 different primates, 360 species of birds and 290 different types of butterflies. It is home to about 600 chimpanzees, some of whom have been habituated for tracking. The chimp tracking and the lodge were initially developed by the Jane Goodall Institute as part of a sustainable tourism project funded by USAID.

The lodge provides comfortable, basic accommodation in a simple log cabin style. Despite it’s simplicity it is a perfect base from which to enjoy the natural beauty of the rainforest - whether you would like to go bird watching, explore the forest by a guided nature walk or enjoy an unforgettable chimp tracking encounter. The Lodge was a runner up to the Tourism for Tomorrow Conservation Awards in 2011, so its eco-credentials stand up to scrutiny.
