Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Machaba Camp

overview

Safari Highlights

Machaba Camp is a luxury tented camp located in the 180,000 hectare Khwai Concession, consisting of eight standard "meru" style tents and 2 family tents. Machaba Camp, Botswana

Camp On The River Khwai

The camp's location within the Khwai area, on the banks of the eponymous river, set among the Sycamore Fig trees ("Machaba" in the local language), make it just about the perfect place from which to explore on foot or by vehicle. Because of its proximity to the river, just sitting at the front of your tent to watch the daily movement of animals coming down to the water to drink is equally fulfilling.

Machaba Camp, BotswanaMeaningfully Minimalist

That the camp is entirely under canvas in no way means that this is camping in the traditional sense. The tents are huge, cool and all en-suite, and the camp boasts a pool, a library and a health therapist. It's not too much that it isolates you from the bush, though. The sounds of the African night penetrate the thin walls, making this camp just about the perfect way to experience Africa as it is meant to be.
