Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Murchison River Lodge

overview

Safari Highlights

Newly opened in 2012, Murchison River Lodge is a rustic but charming budget boutique lodge with a quirky design aesthetic throughout that draws upon inspiration from traditional local building methods, 'upcycling' trends, and classic Swahili style.

The main bar and restaurant area is the gem in this lodge's crown, situated as it is over-looking the river with extensive views of nearby papyrus-marsh islands, often frequented by elephants seeking to cool off in the waters of the Nile. The lodge has a responsible environmental policy and, as a result, its cottages have been built set back from the riverbank, overlooking the bush, to comply with local environmental laws.

It may be a new lodge but the management of Murchison River Lodge has used the space in the restaurant and rooms to house a historical exhibition on Murchison Falls National Park. Browsing these images and ancient maps is a fascinating way to gain perspective on this iconic national park.
