Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Ruhija Gorilla Safari Lodge

overview

Safari Highlights

Ruhija Gorilla Safari Lodge is simple rustic lodge set in the remote location of Ruhija, on the north-eastern boundary of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, at an altitude of 2,350m (7,700ft).

Ruhija Gorilla Lodge, Bwindi, Uganda

Mountain views

This means it has a cooler climate than most of Uganda, and offers the chance to explore montane forest habitats, with bamboo forest and heather found nearby. Only a short distance from the nearby briefing point for Bitakura and Oruzogo gorilla families, the lodge is perfectly placed for guests who are tracking these groups. It is also regularly host to keen ornithologists, who come for the rare bird species found in this higher altitude section of the park.

The lodge has eight chalet-style cottages with views of the forest. Each room is equipped simply, with twin beds and en suite bathrooms with flush toilets and a hot shower. Extra blankets and hot water bottles are provided for the cold nights. The lodge restaurant and bar provides all meals and afternoon tea – the latter best enjoyed from the main lodge verandah with panoramic views of the mountains surrounding the lodge.
