Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Kirkman’s Kamp

Safari Highlights

Named after legendary conservationist Harry Kirkman, Kirkman's Kamp was his original early 20th century Transvaal homestead.

Kirkman's KampSteeped in History

Set on a high ridge overlooking the Sand River, this restored colonial home adds a sense of authentic charm to your safari experience. 18 classically-styled suites provide everything you could desire for your stay, including spectacular views of the river from private verandas, the swimming pool and warthogs grazing on the manicured lawns. It's an extremely evocative camp, taking you back in time to the 1920s through many of its original features.

The Big Five

The lodge is set in one of the most renowned wildlife areas in the world. Lion are often spotted on game drives but it's the leopard that steals the show here. From camp you can go on a walking or driving excursion to track game with some of the best guides around. Common regional species include elephant, spotted hyena, leopard, large buffalo herds, rhino and hippo. A real highlight is an exhilarating spot-lit night drive following nocturnal wildlife such as the rare pangolin.
