Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

overview

Safari Highlights

This award winning &Beyond lodge, perched on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, carries an undeniable air of refinement. It is the juxtaposition of the lodge’s sumptuous baroque design, and the sybaritic pleasure it implies, against the stark beauty of the crater and surrounding highlands that makes the experience at Ngorongoro truly special.

Ngorongoro Crater LodgeBreathtakingly Elegant

Divided into three camps, 30 stilted suites with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs provide an intimate and exclusive crater experience. En suite bathrooms with a centrepiece of fresh roses feature huge showers and chandelier-lit bathtubs, while floor-to-ceiling windows ensure breathtaking views of the incredible game-rich crater. Each camp has its own sitting and dining areas, with private butlers who provide warm, personal service.

Ngorongoro interiorOutstanding Natural Beauty

Fill your days with long game drives on the crater floor; wildlife is abundant and grazing herbivores attract hunting predators - a sight to behold. There are an estimated 25,000 mammals resident in the crater including 70 lion and 16 highly endangered black rhino. Guests can also enjoy hiking the surrounding mountains and forests, take in the Olduvai Gorge, and explore the lake and wide African plains of this conservation area. Additional activities that incur an extra charge range from a banquet lunch on the crater floor to a Shifting Sands dune tour.
