Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Kwando Kwara and Splash Camps

overview

Safari Highlights

These camps are located in the 175,000 hectare Kwara concession, in the south eastern Okavango Delta, and are the only camps in this huge area.

Kwara Camp

Kwara sits on a beautiful lagoon that is part of the Delta. The décor is in keeping with the authentic African style of Kwando Safaris, and the camp has has just 9 canvas tents. Each tent boasts a spacious deck overlooking the lagoon, an ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers and a gorgeous bath – all of which have views out to the floodplains.

The main area, which sits in the centre of the camp, is where the dining, lounge and curio shop are located. There are also has 2 small pool areas at each end of the camp providing guests with more private lounge areas.

Like other Kwando properties, Kwara offers a "digital detox" experience (no wifi, no cell phone connectivity) allowing guests to enjoy and embrace the natural setting of the camp.

Botswana's Best

The Kwara Reserve shares a 30km water boundary with the Moremi Game Reserve, and its unique location boasts both permanent water and seasonal flood plains, as well as extensive dry wilderness. A network of permanent water channels and islands makes this area the perfect delta experience, and it is considered to be amongst the best in Botswana for game viewing and activities.

In addition to day and night game drives, there are mokoro trips, fishing and boat trips on a double-decker boat that visits the Godikwe Lagoon in the Moremi Game Reserve.

Kwara is known for its reliable sightings of predators, including lion, cheetah and leopard. Herds of elephants also frequent the area, as well as giraffe, zebra, sitatunga, lechwe, impala and hippos, and you will enjoy the company of your dedicated guide and tracker throughout your stay here.

Splash Camp

Each of the 12 rooms at Splash is situated on a deck overlooking a pan which attracts game year round. All rooms are equipped with double sinks and both an indoor and an outdoor shower. In addition, each room has a private veranda with outdoor lounge chairs, the perfect place to relax, take in the magnificent views and soak up the atmosphere.

The main area has a plunge pool, bar, and lounge as well as an orientation center and a curio shop. Just in front, towards the pan, is the fire pit where a light breakfast is served each day before heading off on activities.
