Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Savute Safari Lodge

overview

Safari Highlights

The Savute Safari Lodge is located on the Savute Channel in the western part of Chobe National Park.

Blending In

The focus at Savute is very much on being low key and blending into the background. Each of the 12 chalets has its own extensive private lounge and viewing deck overlooking the water. The entire camp exudes a minimalist appeal, and quite rightly - this place is all about being close to the bush and to the resident wildlife. There is no compromise on good service or food, with the lodge providing both in abundance.

Vagaries of the Channel

The Savute Channel has developed a reputation over the years for being capricious, turning itself off and on, and even occasionally flowing backwards for reasons as yet undetermined. In 2009, it began flowing again, and has now filled the Savute Marsh. In a dry, hot area, this can only mean succour for wildlife, especially the resident elephants that troop past the camp on their daily pilgrimage to drink and frolic in the channel.
