Reviews about Journeys Discovering Africa

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp

overview

Safari Highlights

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is a small tented camp found at the confluence of the two tributaries of the Hoanib River in a remote part of Kaokoland.

Leaving it all Behind

The camp is so far away from anything else, it is only accessible by light aircraft. When you get here, therefore, you feel like you're at the ends of the earth, enhanced by the camp having just eight accommodation units. The rugged landscape is easily appreciated and accessed just by stepping out of your tent, and what a landscape it is - a fitting counterpoint to the soothing comfort provided by the camp.

Desert Giants

In this part of Namibia, you start to see larger wildlife, and chief among these are desert adapted elephant, giraffe and gemsbok. Game drives through the area regularly result in encounters with them. For those with a little more time, drives to the Skeleton Coast yield cape fur seals, shipwrecks, and history, with the option to drive there and take a scenic flight back.
