Hotel des Mille Collines

overview

Safari Highlights

Hotel des Mille Collines is most famous for the role it played as a refuge for over 1,000 people during the 1994 Rwanda genocide but it is now fast over-shadowing the more macabre details of its history with its growing reputation as one of Kigali’s best value hotels.

Excellent Facilities

Hotel des Mille Collines is a four star hotel with 112 rooms at a very reasonable rate. Its facilities are well maintained, with an outdoor swimming pool and pool bar, a choice of three eateries, a fitness centre and floodlit tennis court. Every evening the pool bar sees performances from local bands playing Afro-Fusion and Soul music, an excellent way to unwind at the end of your safari.

Hotel des Mille Collines, RwandaRich History

The story of how the Hotel des Mille Collines became the refuge for those fleeing the Rwandan genocide became the basis for the book and film 'Hotel Rwanda', starring Don Cheadle. This moving story tells of how the hotel manager, Paul Rusesabagina, managed to save the lives of nearly 1,300 people by hiding them in his hotel. Cheadle went on to win an Oscar for his role, one of several picked up by the film at the 77th Academy Awards.
