From the dry landscapes of the vast deserts in Namibia to the fertile floodplains of the Okavango Delta in Botswana and the emerald-green forested mountains of Uganda and Rwanda, Africa is brimming with unique landscapes that home diverse animal, bird and plant life.
This makes booking a safari to Africa an undoubtedly exciting yet also daunting endeavour, and the myriad safari travel companies to choose from may add an extra layer of anxiety to what should really be a wonderful experience.
A safari is an investment of a lifetime and can’t compromise on either your budget or expectations. If you don’t know what to look out for in a safari travel company, however, then your safari dream may become a disastrous nightmare.
You know you’ve found a world-class safari company when all four of these items can be confidently ticked off the list:
Proactive communication
A top safari company will make themselves available to you round-the-clock, from first contact right through to when you return home.

They should be there to answer your questions (no matter how small or seemingly silly) with expert advice during the planning phase, provide professional support while you’re having the time of your life in Africa, and follow up with you when you return safely home.
Insightful adaptability
Flexibility and the ability to think out of the box is so important as you want someone that will consider all options in order to create the best safari experience for you.

Safari itineraries can be just as diverse as the people embarking on them. There are so many factors to consider – budget, time, travel style, interests and everything else in between – and only a travel company with in-depth knowledge and understanding of safaris will be able to tailor a trip that meets your expectations.
Credible and trustworthy
A well-established travel company will have a comprehensive network of trusted suppliers, with whom they have cultivated a good relationship and chain of accountability.

This supplier list would also be relatively varied in terms of what offerings are available so that a variety of budgets and interests can be accommodated. And remember, booking accommodation through a safari travel company should not incur additional costs on your part.
Value for money
You should expect a high-value safari experience at a reasonable price, taking into account that you get what you pay for.

It is good to understand upfront that an African safari is generally not a cheap holiday but there is some room to play with. Your travel company should be transparent about this, trying to create a fantastic trip that doesn’t break the bank but also doesn’t compromise on quality, authenticity and safety.
